For our ward Easter Activity, my husband and I made these silhouette dioramas of scenes from Holy Week. We displayed them with a card describing the scene.
Palm Sunday
On the Sunday of the final week of His mortal life, Jesus Christ entered the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Many people heard that He was coming and went to meet Him. They had seen His miracles and believed that Jesus was the Son of God. The people showed they honored Him and carpeted the dusty path before Him with palm leaves, flowering branches, and even their own clothes. As He approached, they cried, “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord” and “Hosanna to the Son of David.” Hosanna is a joyful word that means “save us now.”
The Last Supper
Jesus and His twelve Apostles sat down around a table for their Passover supper. Jesus knew that His mission on earth would soon be over. Jesus blessed and broke some bread and told His Apostles to eat it to remind them of His body, which He would soon sacrifice for them. The Savior then took a cup of wine and blessed it. He asked His Apostles to each drink some as they thought about His blood, which would soon be shed so they could repent and be forgiven of their sins. They were to remember the covenant they had made to follow Him. This was the first time that the disciples received the sacrament.

The Apostles walked with Jesus to the garden of Gethsemane, where olive trees grew. Jesus asked Peter, James, and John to sit and keep watch while He went alone to pray. As Jesus prayed, He began to tremble. Even though it was extremely hard, Jesus said He would fulfill Heavenly Father’s plan and do what He wanted Him to do. Jesus suffered so much that He sweat drops of blood. An angel came to strengthen Him. He suffered for the sins of all people, so if we repent, we can be forgiven. He experienced pain of every kind so He could understand our challenges.
On Friday, Jesus was put on trial, condemned, and beaten. They made a crown of thorns and called Him “King of the Jews.” The soldiers took Jesus to a hill near Jerusalem to crucify Him. They made Him carry His own cross. They nailed His hands and His feet to the cross and lifted it up. They also crucified two other men who were thieves. On the cross, Jesus showed compassion for his accusers and said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." After he died, His friends wrapped His body in clean white cloth and laid it in a tomb, with a large stone in front of the doorway.
The Savior’s body was in the tomb for three days, until Sunday morning, when two angels came and rolled the stone away. Mary Magdalene, one of Jesus’ friends, went to the tomb and was surprised to see that the stone was not in front of the door and that Jesus’ body was not there. She began to cry, thinking someone had taken His body. Then, a man asked, “Woman, why weepest thou?” She thought he was the gardener and asked where Jesus’ body was taken. Then He said, “Mary.” At that moment, she knew—it was Jesus! He asked her to tell the Apostles that He was resurrected.
On the other side of the earth, there were earthquakes and storms. It was a sign that Jesus had died. The land stayed dark for three days. The Nephites were frightened. Then they heard a voice saying, “Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye Him.” They looked up and saw Jesus coming down from heaven until He stood right there with them. Jesus let every person touch His hands and feet to feel the places where He had been nailed to the cross in Jerusalem. He spent time with each person and blessed them, one by one.

They are 16x20" or half of a sheet of foam-core poster board. I made the artwork, and my husband used his CO2 laser to cut them out. I used my silhouette machine to cut out the leaves from cardstock. I scored the palm leaves down the middle to give them dimension. I had to paint one layer of cardboard to get a darker color. Each layer is separated using a layer of double-stick foam tape, a piece of foam core, and another layer of foam tape.
This was a really fun project. Let me know if you would like the artwork, and I'll send it to you. It is in Adobe Illustrator.
Happy Easter! He is Risen!
